pink and silver | 26.06.2004 20:15 | Globalisation | Repression

There will be a demo in solidarity with the protestors detained and tortured after the EU and Latin American countries summit last month in Guadalajara, Mexico, this Monday 28th of June 2004 at 4pm at the Mexican Embassy, 42 Hertford St., London W1J 7JR, England . Please come and show your solidarity and support.

On the 28th of May there was an international trade summit of the Caribbean and Latin American countries and the European Union held in Guadalajara,
Mexico.

Protestors were violently and illegally arrested by the police and 111 people detained. 33 people are still in prison and they will not be released. Of these, 10 who started a hunger strike but at the moment we don't know exactly what is the situation with their health and if they still continue the hunger strike. They have been put in solidarity confinement.

All have been charged with disorders, obstructing the highway, resisting arrest, vandalism, damages, damaging private property and classified robbery

All those released have spoken of torture and have lodged a complaint to the National Court of Human Rights (you can read there testimonies on
 http://guadalajara.mediosindependientes.org and
 http://mexico.indymedia.org/guadalajara/).

A movement of solidarity has started to raise funds for bail money for 25 of June and there have been many declarations in the press in favour of freeing the prisoners (NGOs, members of parliament, academics, etc.). But the local government (Estado de Jalisco) is the very reactionary and ultra right.

The demands of the social organisations mexican civil society are
1) free all the prisoners
2) drop the criminal society and charges against all those arrested.

It is very important that there are demonstrations in solidarity in several cities of the world and if organisations want to sign the call out statement (see below this message ) they can send an email to  limeddh@laneta.apc.org

They are calling for a global day of mobilisation for 28 of June, exactly one month after the events (See Call Below).

There will be a demo at the Mexican Embassy, 42 Hertford St., London W1J 7JR, England on Monday 28th of June 2004 at 4pm. Please come and show your solidarity and support.
