Elan Vital, a charity which gets over £250,000 a year in tax gifts from the UK Government, has extended its attack on an investigative journalist to include its UK web site.

Australian freelancer, John Macgregor has been the subject of a concerted legal campaign by a business offshoot of an Australian organisation which has received over £300,000 of charitable funds from the UK. Ivory's Rock Conference Centre Ltd, has tried to silence Macgregor by litigating against him in what is obviously a SLAPP style action.*

Now under the guise of an FAQ page** Elan Vital actually names Macgregor as being part of hate group and links to an Australian site *** which vilifies Macgregor and seeks to vindicate the SLAPP action. Incredibly both the UK and Australian sites link to CESNUR whose founder is associated with the far right.****

The action by the UK Elan Vital, there are other Elan Vitals in both the US, where it is registered as a 'church' and Australia, seems motivated by a desperation to close down all criticism in advance of events featuring its leader Prem Pal Singh Rawat, planned for Birmingham, Dublin and London.

Prem Rawat, who used to be called Guru Maharaj Ji, has become massively wealthy through his leadership of Elan Vital. Although much is made of the fact he doesn't get paid directly from Elan Vital's bank accounts, the organisation is unwilling to discuss the fact that the $6 million a year cost of his private jet and his presidential suite hotel bills are paid as expenses from charitable funds.

Rawat is often described as a 'successful private investor', what this actually means is that he was given shares in three American companies by some deluded followers. One of these companies AMP - which was built up on the slave labour of Rawat's followers was sold to defence contractor BAe - netting Rawat some $7 million in cash.

Of the other two companies, Rawat owns 100% of book buying operation Amtext***** hated by millions of US students on whose poverty it preys. The third company, Deltek Systems****** produces accounting software specifically for US Government contractors (read Dept of Defence).

Deltek has proved a disappointment to Rawat, its share price fell in 2001 by over 600%, and it seems that along with some bad real estate purchases - a South American swamp and a piece of Australian semi desert, Rawat is facing financial hardship.

With the UK Charity Commission already looking into the accounts of Elan Vital, Mr Rawat's money worries may well be what lies behind the extended attack on John Macgregor, whose articles have exposed fraud in the Australian Elan Vital. Further media attention could seriously affect Elan Vital's chances of getting more converts who will to pay to see Mr Rawat.

The events in Birmingham (NEC 26th June) and London (Alexandra Palace 3rd/4th July) are being charged at £75 per seat.
