Today is the fifth anniversary of the June 18 1999 Carnival Against Capitalism in the City of London. This now forgotten demo was the first of the recent wave of anti capitalist protests in the western world as far as I'm aware. It took place some time before the now legendary Prague and Seattle demonstrations. This is the first time most of these photos have been published. Hope you enjoy looking at them!

The first of the current wave of anti-capitalist demos were in fact in Geneva against the WTO and were massive, but you only got to hear about them if you were looking very closely..... it was around this time that western activists united with PGA, but of course if you are from the USA it was all invented in Seattle (dontcha just hate hearing that?!!)
