request for help

Can someone post the photographs to the Indymedia site? I don't seem to be able to do it myself.

FDL not correctly applied

14.06.2004 12:52

Why should anyone else observe your FDL terms when you haven't correctly applied the licence? (FDL is not a free software licence anyway and is a PITA for small contributions like images that would probably be best used to illustrate stories and leaflets.)

If you want to post your pictures directly on indymedia, use the "publish your news" button (or "add your comments"), then first define the number of files you want to upload in your article (in this case "files" means pictures) - this is the function just above the title box in the publish form.

then at the bottom of the publish form you'll have the number of media items that you defined first. now for each media item browse on your computer and select the picture you want to upload, and give it a title. When you're finished click submit and wait, it may take a little time if you have many pictures as you have to upload all of them on the indymedia server. you have to enter something in the abstract and article boxes as well or it is not going to work.

quick tip: the uk indymedia server sometimes has problems with big files, so if you want your upload to work, reduce the size of your pictures (scale them for example to a resolution of 600x450); it will also be faster to read for people with slow internet connections. also, do not include more than say 15 pictures by post, or the page will become really slow to read for people with slow connections.

good luck! if you have any more questions, ask on the oxford indymedia editorial email list, which is imc-oxford-features [at] lists.indymedia.org . You can also subscribe to this list and to the general discussion list, imc-oxford [at] lists.indymedia.org, just read the contact page on oxford indymedia to know how to do it.

ciao :-)

Copyleft

14.06.2004 20:46

The Indymedia upload page says 'We consider, as a rule, that material contributed to this site free for non-profit re-use in the spirit of Copyleft. If you want to change that for your material posted, please give your conditions in the summary.' with a link to a description of GNU licences. So I don't see what is wrong. Don't use my photos if there is a problem.
