A few months ago I posted the article below. It received a mixed reception but some commeted that the idea was the creation of a paranoid conspiracy theorist's mind.

Until now the mention of bio-chip implants or RFID chip implants has received ridicule and accusations of conspiracy theory.
Well, not any more! They are here. Press reports have claimed that five American states plan to start mandatory bio-chip implants of homeless people in order to track them in real-time. A spanish night club has just announced that it will be offering implants to its customers. Not so long ago it was just pets and presumably VIPs who had these implants. Now it could be assumed that coalition forces in Iraq have implants and that whilst they are being encouraged in the 'Chip Mobile' roadshow (see link), it will not be long until they will be compulsor

Implantable bio-chips will be introduced incrementally, targeting 'undesirable' or 'vulnerable' members of the community first, making it acceptable, before it becomes mandatory for all.
Many people may have received them already, surreptitiously through vaccinations or during surgery. The human race will become part man, part machine - nanobots, controlled via a central computer.

All of us here at Imperial had a great laugh watching Simon wind you up, that Friday he was the recipient of a number of drinks in the bar.
The use of Verichip is of course now widespread so your story is rather out of date but I suppose still relevant. All routine NHS injections now do of course include "chipping" and since 1999 all babies born in the UK are "chipped" before they leave hospital. The chip within the UK Passport can be seen if held under a UV light.

The information is not widespread but the small print that allows it is included now in the standard consent form that parents sign. It is logical to assume that we are all receiving these chips anytime we have any form of medical injection. During evasive surgery it would be easier to fit more sophisticated units with a longer range.
