Respect beat Greens in London Mayoral Elections

Lindsey German has beaten the Greens and BNP in the London Mayoral Elections! Although Livingstone won, with the obvious runners-up of Tory, Lib Dem and UKIP, German managed 67,000 votes to beat the Greens by a comfortable margin.

Fantastic result, well done!

So, one of only two genuine anti-war candidates beats another with a BNP candidate between them. Real cause for celebration!

Actually, what it is is a victory for the ancient political art of divide and rule. I hope this serves to make the Greens and Respect (especially Respect) to reconsider the terms of collaboration.

Oh, and don't give me any bullshit about Livingstone opposing the war in Iraq. Sure, he stood on the platform, spouted rhetoric and the cuddled back up to Tony.
