George Galloway & Abortion

red letter | 09.06.2004 09:23

George Galloway sets the record straight about abortion rights

there has been alot of misinformation about galloways position on a womans right to choose.

Quoting from the letters page in Guardian 7th june 04

"I am not opposed to a woman's right to choose and neither is the RESPECT coalition".

 http://www.guardian.co.uk/letters/story0,3604,1232817,00.html

also for the record RESPECT has a high representation of women candidates 48% including women from the muslim community.

i was motivated to write this following a debate i had with a woman yesterday who believed the progananda about RESPECT policy against women.

Confusion on Pro-choice

09.06.2004 09:50

Now this is getting really confusing! Does George Galloway actually deny making the comments?

The Muslim Association of Britain's press release says:

Muslims back Galloway pro-life stand

The Muslim Association of Britain welcomes comments made by George Galloway MP on abortion in an interview published recently.

Mr Galloway who is currently leading the newly formed ‘Unity Coalition; Respect’ into the forthcoming European Parliamentary Elections on the 10th of June, outlines his own conviction that abortion is morally and ethically wrong. When asked about the woman’s right to choose, he appropriately posed the question: ‘what about the child’s right to choose?’.

These comments, as well as his statements on faith and God in the same interview, will surely be welcomed by British Muslims who see Respect as a real alternative to the main political parties in the approaching European elections. They also affirm George Galloway’s standing as a man of principle who does not shy away from putting his own position on the line for his beliefs and convictions.

End.

Why ?

09.06.2004 10:12

Can anyone tell me why this is such an issue ?

Why on earth would anyone support the right of one individual to kill another ?

Why are there still those on the left who think this is acceptable ?
