Demo of Britain's most Zionist (and dull) store continues

Last night's demo of M&S was okay but not as big as the last couple of weeks. About 30 people came along to a rained out Oxford St to spread the word against the brutality of the Israeli state and M&S's sponsorship of it. The police were quite hands off again but were being a bit funny on the posters and placards that we had put up. The one that they were most against was our 'Victory to the Iraqi Resistance' placard. They claimed that people may find it offensive and under the Public Order Act they could remove it. We explained that Article 10 of the E.U Human Rights Act, which protects freedom to expression, supercedes that of the Public Order Act. We backed up our argument with reference to case examples and the cops backed down. The Zionists weren't too keen on us showing support for the Iraqi resistance either (boo-hoo) and tried there best to make some noise on this point (they doubled their numbers this week to a mammoth 10, compared to 5 last week!) and could almost be heard.

It was evident what the mood and opinion on the street reflected - support from Palestine and Iraq. despite the rain many people did stop to talk to us and join in the chants. The Zionists were constantly surrounded and marauded by angry Arab vistors (and British people alike) too.

Things are heating up in the Middle East and the tensions of it are beginning to spill over here, with the majority of people fed up with the war and the atrocities committed by Israel. It is essential that we keep up the pressure against M&S and all those who support Israel. I
