The Annual March to commemorate the heinous climate crime committed by George Bush and his mates at Exxon Mobil. The theme this year was mass extinction/ dinosaurs. a worthy point as if bush and his mates at exxon continue- the dramatic effects of climate change will render the human race to the same fate - except this time it will be humans who are to blame.
The purpose of the march was to physically link Bush, Esso and the climatic injustices of their filthy behavior. About 30 of us began at the Esso HQ in Leatherhead and spent the day walking to the US embassy Via many Esso garages along the way accompanied by buffalo Bill and his trike.
We had a press stop in Wimbledon (and a well deserved rest!!!). and were met by some more people eager to march in protest.
We were met at the Imperial war Museum by a rapturous greeting form a few hundred fellow protesters and after an informative speech form the Green MEP Caroline Lucas, the final Leg of the March to the embassy was completed, the Rinky Dink provided much entertainment, with chants pleading to the public and the government to “clean up the environment”. many used the dino theme of the demo, and there were some great inspired costumes.
When we finally reached the US embassy (about 11 hours later!!!) we were greeted by words of encouragement of what we had all accomplished and what can be done to further the fight against failure to ratify the Kyoto protocol. By Micheal Meacher (former Environment Sec), the Lib Dem Environmental rep, as well as Liana Form Friends of the Earth.
Also thanks to the Eco Worriers for their support as well.
Many commented on the valuable advice for behavioral change in our own homes to reduce energy consumption and therefore greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, and words of further anger directed against the current American administration and funding.
Thanks to everyone who showed their invaluable support, unfortunately the fight still continues, we are constantly campaigning for change to fight Climate Catastrophe
