M&S Protest
Victory to the Intifada! | 14.05.2004 09:24 | Anti-racism | London
Good demo again last night outside of Britain's favourite Zionist retailer - Marks and Spencer. After several months of increasing pressure by the Metropolitan police they have finaly begun to turn the heat down. We can only conclude that this is a result of the stuanch discipline they've faced by the picketers, the steadfastness in the face of intimidation and legal grounding of the stewards which has kept us one step ahead of the police. We can also conclude that the current 'let-up' of intimidation will only be temporary until the police decide to change their tactics once more.
With the surveillance van and Forward Intelligence Team gone and a reduction in police numbers there was a much more relaxed air to the demo with. However, the horrific pictures coming out of Iraq and the brutal murder of Palestinian civilians made us realise the importance and seriousness of keeping these demos going. Last week, after the heroic killing of 6 Zionist soldiers in their big tank with big weapons in a refugee camp, the Zionist Army continued its policy of communal punishment by levelling over 120 homes in one day, killing many in the process and making countless numbers more homeless.
The impossibility of the Zionists to make but even the slightest concession, as has been seen by Likud's refusal to implement the imperialist 'Road Map', means that they are now cultivating the final nakbar - the forced removal of Palestinians from their land. It is imperative now that we build an anti-imperialist movement here in the U.K if we are to prevent this ongoing crime against humanity. The Iraqi resistance has put a spanner in the works of the imperialists designs in the Middle East. All left and progressive forces in the imperialist countries will be judged by their relationship to the resistance in Palestine and Iraq. We are now entering a crucial moment in history where we must be very clear in our direction and relation to the international and U.K forces that are being thrown up. Here there are two camps emerging - as in the U.S. Those who support resistance and side with the oppressed and those who merely call themselves 'socialists or anarchists' and criticise from thier comfortable Western armchairs and side (wittingly or not) with the imperialists. It is quite simple really. The defeat of tyranny and exploitation will ultimately depend on which camp heads the alternative movement that will come from the self-destrcution and ruin of capitalism.
It is time my friends for us all to stand up and be counted. There is little use in just going to a demo once in a blue moon or taking non-connected sporadic actions. We cannot wear t-shirts and wave placards saying 'not in my name' anymore - for whether we like it or not the crimes going on ARE in our name. It is imperative that we build continuous and dirceted acion each and every single week if we are serious. If we are serious we must confront British capitalism (for it is capitalism which is the route cause of war and poverty and we are after all in Britain) and confront it continuosly.
Come join the longest running weekly demos in support of Palestine!
Victory to the Palestinian and Iraqi intifadas!
Demonstrate next and every Thursday outside Oxford St Marks and Spencer (Marble Arch end). 6 till 8pm.

"Last week, after the heroic killing of 6 Zionist soldiers"
1. the bodies of those soldiers were mutilated and paraded in the streets in what one reporter described as "canibal like".
2. The bodies of these soldiers were not given to the Israelis. The families of the soldiers could therefore not bury their loved ones. Shockingly the "heroes" that you mention, Islamic Jihad wanted to use the bodies as a bargenning chip. Discusting.
3. Islamic Jihad were the people who committed these acts of barbarity. You apploud them but you are socilists, what is this collusion with fascist islamist groups?
VTI are sick people. I am outraged that you congratulate death.

the voice of common sense
Killing is heroic?

So I suppose its ok for Israelis to talk about the deaths of Palestinians as
"heroic"
The US guards, commiting heroic killings of Iraqis,
Beheading US (admittedly, there on dubious grounds)citizens as heroic,
etc etc
Go on make yourself and your cause popular why dont you!
I did support what you were doing, however if you consider killing people as a heroic act you can stuff your picket. I hope it bloody rains.
Idiot
