Frank Maloney candidate for London mayor in June

writer | 11.05.2004 22:59

Frank Maloney, working class former boxing promoter, is one of the candidates for London mayor asside from the big 3 parties.

A Message to Londoners from your Mayoral Candidate Frank Maloney

Don't let the politicians pick our pockets - reduce our Council Tax !

Homes for London families - not more illegal sponging asylum seekers !

I will work for Londoners & NO ONE ELSE!

www.maloney4mayor.co.uk

This is what I want to do for London:
* Catch criminals not motorists.
* Help victims of crime not the criminals.
* Abolish the Congestion Charge & liberate Londoners.

* No more speed cameras, no more speed bumps.
* More police officers less political correctness.
* Abolish the GLA.

* Bring in 24 hour transport services.
* Stop the career politicians.
* Stop Ken Livingstone.

* and say NO to the European Union!

Why I want to be London Mayor

We must put pride and respect back into our communities
I am standing for London Mayor because I love London and care
deeply about our city. I do not feel that the career politicians
currently standing for election understand London or Londoners.

I cannot stand back and allow our city to become a political football
for the main three political parties. The people of London are the
ones that suffer and we are all being ignored.

Our current Mayor has done little for London apart from introduce
another tax on Londoners through his failing Congestion Charge.
He has also doubled his take of our Council Tax.

Yet our streets are not safer, crime is rising and the police are
unable to do their jobs properly because of political correctness.
The Mayor of London should fight for our city, all of our city, not just
Inner London but the suburbs as well.

It is time we had new blood running London. I am a Londoner and a
businessman. I am standing for Mayor because I love this city and
want to make it the best Capital in the world.

I am determined to listen to all Londoners from all walks of life and
represent you the best that I can. Together we can get London
moving again and make our city great.

LAW AND ORDER
"I want to take the handcuffs off the police and put them on the
criminals. It is my first priority."

METROPOLITAN POLICE: London's Police force is here to serve all Londoners and
I will make sure that they do. The MET needs to be supported by us all to stop the crime that is rife in our city; at
the moment they are not being helped by the politicians. We all want to see our streets cleaned
up and we must allow the police to get on with their job. I want a crack down on crime to improve the safety of all law abiding
Londoners, by giving Londoners a named police officer.

THE POLICE AREN'T THE ENEMY THE CRIMINALS ARE!

POLICE NUMBERS: Other parties want 35,000 police in London. I want to aim for
40,000 as more police will mean more officers tackling crime, walking the beat and ensuring that we are safe in our city day or
night. I believe this can be achieved if we give the police the support they deserve. The centre of London is more secure now
than ever, but outer London and the suburbs have been neglected. More police officers will ensure that people in
London will be protected no matter where they live.

CRACK DOWN ON CRIME: These days it seems that crime pays and victims foot the bill. If I am elected I will change this. Criminals will be wiped off of our streets; there will be no place for them in our City. I want to
concentrate on all crimes. Crime is un-acceptable on any level and must be stopped. I will support the MET and give them
whatever they need to ensure that we are free from the fear of crime. 4

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: This is a major problem, especially in younger people. It is partly because they have nothing to do in the evenings and also because they are allowed to get away with all forms of anti-social behaviour. What we want in London is common sense policing not politically correct policing.

NO-GO AREAS: We know there are no-go areas in London but the politicians
fail to acknowledge that. I want to make everywhere in London somewhere that we can visit if we want to or travel through if we need to. Drugs are a major problem in the City. I will close down the crack houses and support the police in their efforts to tackle
this very serious problem.
THERE WILL BE NO HAVEN FOR CRIMINALS IN LONDON

BROTHELS: I will support the legalisation and licensing of brothels in
London. Kerb crawling is a major problem in our city and I want to tackle this. I want to take prostitution off of our streets and
into an environment away from residential areas where prostitutes can be registered and protected. By implementing
this proposal the streets of London will be made safer for all women and help stamp out the illegal importation of sex slaves.

SPECIAL CONSTABLES: I want to enhance the role of our special constables. This will
give local people a role in improving their own neighbourhoods and will be a valuable link between Londoners and their local
police force. I will do away with Community Support Officers and use the money for proper policing. I will strengthen the role
of special constables and use them to assist the local police force in their area.

SOD THE CRIMINALS, HELP THE VICTIMS

TRANSPORT IN LONDON
"I will remove restrictions on motorists and make travel cleaner, more accessible
and fairer for all."

CONGESTION CHARGE: I will remove the Congestion Charge. It is a tax on Londoners and restricts freedom in moving about our City. The charge has damaged businesses in the centre of London and divided communities along its borders. If a charge is in place successive administrations will always seek to increase it and extend it to other areas of London. I will end this. Better traffic and roadwork management will be more than enough to ease congestion.

NO MORE FINES AND CHARGES

LONDON BUSES: I want to make London's buses safer and more efficient. Putting more conductors on buses will increase passenger safety and ensure that the appropriate fares are paid. Bus fares in Outer
London will be reduced. In order to increase efficiency bus routes will be assessed so that more routes can be opened
when required and un-used routes reduced. Bus lanes will be rigorously enforced so public transport can run smoothly. More buses to outer London at night time will ensure Londoners get home safely and cheaply.

UNDERGROUND: London is a 24/ 7 city so I will work with London Underground to
introduce later night underground services to ensure that people can work and socialise anywhere in London at anytime.
The proposed West London tram link will be scrapped and attention devoted to establishing the underground network in South and East London which currently have little or no service. There should be no restrictions on the movements of Londoners.

WE WANT 24 HOUR TRANSPORT TO SERVICE THE NEEDS OF LONDONERS

ROAD USERS: More of us drive than ever before and numbers of drivers will
increase. I want to make driving easier for people in London. I will not introduce any more speed cameras and no more
speed bumps will be laid. I will also campaign for the gradual removal of those that are obstructive to traffic. They are only
needed in recognised traffic black spots. These 'traffic calming' measures do not prevent road deaths; they clog up the systems
and slow down the emergency services. I will look at the rephasing of traffic lights, less one way streets, allowing licensed
mini cabs to use bus lanes and restrict large delivery vehicles hours of entry into the centre.

CABS: Unlicensed mini-cabs will be stopped. Passenger safety is
paramount and people should feel secure when travelling in a taxi. Cabbie representatives will be involved in transport
decision making and consulted on what can be done to help the trade provide a better service and cover all parts of London.

RIVER THAMES: The River Thames runs through the centre of London and could
really help alleviate transport problems but unfortunately is not used enough. With plenty of access points on both sides of the
river this makes for an excellent water highway right in the heart of the city. I will look at introducing high speed boats that can
move people quickly across the city. This will be a great alternative to buses and the tube.

SCHOOL TRAVEL: I will look at the possibility of introducing free travel on buses
to and from London's schools for London children 16 and under. If more children use public transport to get to school it
will reduce the need for the notorious 'school run' every morning. Congestion during rush hour will be reduced all over
the capital.

FREEDOM FOR LONDONERS TRAVELLING IN THEIR CITY

YOUTH AND CULTURE
"Our city is the most culturally diverse in the UK. We are all Londoners and I want to preserve our way of life."

SPORTS: I will encourage competitive sporting events on all levels. Some
idiots think we shouldn't have competitive sport because sports discriminate against certain children. Losing is part of life. It is
character building and teaches valuable lessons. In fact sport is the best way to keep fit. Competition is healthy, it creates
passion and drive. There are so many sports out there for everyone not just boxing and football. I will put maximum effort
into bringing all sporting and international events to London.

SCHOOL FIELDS: I will stop the selling off of school playing fields. The land our
schools have available for sports is valuable and if sold off will never be returned. Active outdoor sporting activities must be
encouraged for the health and wellbeing of our children
LONDONS CHILDREN ARE LONDONS FUTURE

YOUTH ORGANISATIONS: There are many clubs for young people in London such as youth
centres, cadet units, charitable and voluntary organisations. However, many lack support and struggle to stay open. In some
areas of London there is little provision for our youth and assistance is needed to open new centres. 8
8 Page 9 10
EDUCATION: Bullying in schools is unacceptable but it still goes on under our
noses. We must ensure that our children do not face this torture which happens on a day to day basis. I will ensure that those
who bully will be severely punished for making other children's lives a misery. I want to work with Head Teachers and parents to
educate children on sexual awareness and the dangers of the Internet and paedophiles.

ARTS AND CRAFT: London is a creative city and has a wealth of
experience in design and art. Theatres, museums and other cultural centres will be
actively encouraged to promote their art.
MARKET STALLS: Markets are great places to start businesses,

socialise and to shop for a bargain. Our street markets are under threat yet they are an
important part of London's culture as well as that of the UK. We need to ensure that existing markets are preserved and
new ones started up. We will encourage farmers to sell their goods through London's markets. This will preserve the link
between London, the countryside and the rest of the UK.
THIS IS YOUR CITY

BUSINESS AND TOURISM
"Our city is the greatest in the world. I will spread the message around the globe that London is the place to go for business, culture and entertainment."

BUSINESSES: Small businesses are the backbone of our nation and they must be supported. As a businessman myself I know how hard it is to run a business so I will give my full support to businesses in
London. There will be better grants to help small businesses start up and grow in London benefiting deprived areas.

OLYMPIC BID: The Olympic bid for London should be supported fully by the
entire nation. It is a national effort and will benefit the country as a whole. The entire UK should therefore contribute not just
Londoners. Those who say it cannot be held in London are wrong. It can be done if the effort, support and the money are
provided. It will be a testament to this great country we live in and the great city that London is. We have to take this chance or we may never see the Olympics here in our lifetimes.

IT IS NOW OR NEVER!

OPENING HOURS: Pubs and clubs and other businesses should be allowed to open whenever they like. Our social hours should not be restricted by 'last orders'. Relaxed pub opening times will reduce the anti-social behaviour we so often see after 11.30pm.

TOURISM: London has many world famous landmarks and tourist sites.

Unfortunately tourism in London has suffered of late due to international circumstances and the global economy. We have to
promote all the best that London has to offer making it the first choice destination for tourist the world over.

CELEBRATIONS: New Years Eve is celebrated in a big way in New York and Sydney
and is televised around the world. London will not be left out. I shall fully support a recognised New Years Eve celebration in
London. This will show London to be a world class city that can match any other capital. Public celebrations should be encouraged and we will introduce a St George's Day celebration to go along with other national days like St Patrick's
Day and cultural events like the Notting Hill Carnival. Four fifths of people said they would celebrate if the Government made St George's Day a national holiday so we will support this proposal. I will also give full support to celebrate Trafalgar Day in 2005
and do everything possible to encourage the Government to hold events on the Thames and to support the efforts of the

National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
CELEBRATE OUR CITY!

AIRPORT EXPANSION
STANSTED AIRPORT: As mayor I would support the plans to expand Stansted Airport.
It is already an international airport and facilities need to be updated. This would reduce the strain on Gatwick and Heathrow.
Stansted has direct access to Central London by rail to Liverpool Street and by road to the M11 relieving the M25.

COUNCIL TAX
"Our Council Tax has gone sky high since Ken Livingstone has become Mayor. I want to ensure Londoners get better value for money, at present so much is wasted."
COUNCIL TAX: Bills have increased taking them over the £1000 band D average.

The people hardest hit are those on fixed incomes like pensioners and the low paid. This is particularly bad for
Londoners where rising house prices have altered the link between the value of a house and the income of its residents.
The current mayor wants to increase his share of the bill this year. I want to reduce the amount of tax that the Mayor takes
so that more is spent on local services.

LONDON SHOULD BE RUN LIKE A BUSINESS, NOT A PRIVATE EMPIRE

ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION: Politicians do not talk about this issue because they are afraid.
We all know asylum and immigration needs to be addressed due to the pressure on London's health, housing, schools and
benefits systems. Due to EU enlargement *73million East Europeans will be entitled to come to this Country and most will
come to London*. I want much tighter immigration controls & a better dispersal system to stop too many coming to London.
We need to remove illegal asylum seekers with speed and provide better support to genuine asylum seekers.

PENSIONERS: Pensioners deserve better support and attention. Our city
wouldn't be here if it weren't for them and we owe them the freedom we have today. I will support free home nursing care and
a cap on Council Tax for pensioners when I am elected as Mayor.

ENVIRONMENT
"I want our city to be a healthier place to live. I will make London cleaner, greener and safer."

ESTATES: I want to regenerate all the Council Estates in London with
better lighting, security and atmosphere. Wardens will be appointed to look after the estates with direct contact with the
police. Anti-social behaviour, graffiti and other criminal activities will not be tolerated. Some of the poorest people in London live
on these estates and we need to improve their quality of life. Residents on estates need to have more of a say in what goes
on around them and improvements can be made.

LONDONERS DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN SLUMS

HOUSING: London's housing is in crisis and hard working Londoners are

being priced out of the market. We will evaluate all unused property and also ensure that affordable housing is
constructed. Derelict council buildings will be repaired and squatters evicted. Arrangements can be made with private
housing associations to increase provision of homes for ordinary Londoners.

GREEN AREAS: London is renowned for its outstanding parks and open spaces.
We must ensure that these green areas remain an integral part of London's landscape. City farms and zoos will be preserved. A
London tree planting scheme will also be examined.

ENVIRONMENT: Litter, graffiti and vandalism are a problem in London. We will ensure that businesses clean up after themselves and that councils remove graffiti, clear up rubbish and repair damaged facilities as quickly as possible.

FOOD AND WATER: We oppose the use of genetically modified crops and will campaign against the fluoridation of London's water supplies.

ABOLISH THE GLA
"I want to get rid of this wasteful and unnecessary bureaucracy and save Londoners £36.2m

and put it to better use."
ABOLITION OF THE GLA: The Greater London Authority costs a great deal of money. Members of the GLA are paid £45,000p. a and receive a staffing allowance
and travel expenses. All this comes out of your pockets. We don't need expensive
buildings like City Hall. We don't need more elected officials. We have local MP's and a Minister for London
in the Government as well as elected local councils. Most people in London don't know or care who their London GLA
Member is or what they do. Our team standing for the GLA fully support its dissolution. They do not want to work in an institution
pretending to be democratic for London that actually has little power to do much at all. These are jobs for the boys; it is
Livingstone creating his own little empire. Like myself I believe Londoners want this stopped. If I am
elected, it will give me the remit to demand that Parliament repeal the GLA Act. All we need are representatives from our
elected local councils to assist the mayor in addressing the needs of local communities.

I WILL WORK FOR LONDONERS, NO ONE ELSE ADVERTISING: The current Mayor spent £20million on
advertising telling us how great everything is. Londoners do not need to be told if a form of transport is better or not, we can tell
simply by using it every day. I will not advertise in this way saving money that can be re-invested into the public transport
system.
MY GLA Team: Damian Hockney, Peter Hulme-Cross, Adrian Roberts, Paul Cronin, Gwyneth Rolph, Lawrence Webb, Frank

Gatte, Robin Lambert, John Dunford, Ray Leyden and Ralph Atkinson.

Together we will do our utmost to achieve our manifesto goals. 14
14 Page 15 16
I am not a career politician. I am just an
ordinary Londoner who wants to make his
City the greatest in the world. I do not
believe that the Mayor and current set of
politicians standing for election will be able
to make London a better city.

I believe that my experience working and living in London all my
life enables me to realise what is important to people and that
they want to get their city on the move. I will listen to Londoners
because we all want a city to be proud of.

We want London to be clean, cleared of crime and a pleasant
place to live and work. As mayor I can guarantee that I would do
my utmost to achieve the objectives I have set out in this
manifesto.

This is why I ask you to vote for me Frank Maloney on June 10th
2004. Together we can put pride and respect back into our
communities.
