Justice For Tenants - Fighting for working class people in Liverpool!

The Organiser | 02.05.2004 13:48 | Health | Repression | Social Struggles | Liverpool

A tenants' direct action campaign group!

The tenants in Liverpool and Merseyside are sick of the injustices. The councillors whether they're Labour or Liberal-Democrat simply don't care about throwing us out into the private sector they're not tenants themselves! Councillors are giving away our land, our homes, our streets, our neighbourhoods and our communities for 'FREE' to undemocratic and unaccountable private landlords it is 'our' public property not for them to give away through rigged ballots or no ballots at all.

Councils are delaying housing benefit payments, halting payment for three months in Liverpool in 2003, in some cases the council hasn't paid housing benefit for 12 months leading to some families being made homeless - You don't hear about that in the Echo!
Their decisions are daily driving us into deeper poverty and forcing us out of our homes against our will in Norris Green on the Boot Estate to clear the land for private housing, in Croxteth on the Gillmoss estate to make way for a Tescos, in Kensington to make way for 'yuppie' exclusive housing, in Bootle on the Klondyke estate and beyond to clear the land for a private regeneration company's massive plans. In some places tenants are being harrassed and also terrorised out by organised firebugs burning adjoining empty properties. In the Granby Street area housing is being cleared out and even recently built housing is said to be under threat of demolition. The massive programme of demolitions are destroying empty good quality housing, while the council's waiting lists continue to grow.

Councillors from Sefton, to Knowsley, to Liverpool and Wirral have betrayed all tenants - They don't deserve working class support or working class votes on June 10th!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - IT'S TIME WE FOUGHT BACK - NOW IS THAT TIME - JOIN US!

Tenant activists in Liverpool and Merseyside have set up "Justice For Tenants" a new campaign group to defend our fellow tenants against injustice by landlords such as evictions, unpaid or delayed housing benefit payments and the numerous other issues.

Sounds like just what we tenants need here in Liverpool - ACTION!

Things are getting worse daily, the Liverpool Echo is doing its loyal bit for Kapital of K-Kulture by ensuring people who are victims of council blunders don't get coverage in the local press, nothing must dull the polish and shine of KofK, that includes not giving coverage to a family in Kensington who face eviction within the next two weeks. Liverpool City Council are already responsible for losing them their previous home last year by not paying out housing benefit for 12 months. How many more tenants are suffering, it's truly depressing.

Frankly we need a group of tenants who are prepared to protest, demonstrate and hold sit-ins and do all we can to defend tenants families and homes.

I will certainly support the group and look forward to the first protest, as soon as possible!
