Unite against Fascism!

In the run up to the elections, there will be a Love Music Hate Racism festival of fantastic gigs/shows/events in Leeds in order to counter the politics of despair and hatred of the fascists.
See www.lovemusicleeds.co.uk and www.lmhr.org.uk for more details.
See also www.leedsunity.org.uk for details of more local activity against the BNP.
Cheers.

HATE?

30.04.2004 09:40

I don't want to hate racism ...

I want to seek to understand why it happens so it can be dealt with...
so eventually we can ALL live together in peace...

I support the anti-fascist movement whole-heartedly
but this language is strange...

Sheesh. If you can't see why racism is something to hate then you have become terminally compromised by weedy liberalism.

You may wish to consider rebooting yourself.

hate racism for obvious reasons

SWP confusion

Yes it is. Bizarrely the SWP is currently leading both Respect, which advocates voting for its ex/'anti'- Labour candidates, and Unite against Fascism, which advocates voting for anybody as long as they are not the BNP, and not doing anything to 'split the vote' and let in the fash, ie advocating a vote FOR the same Labour Party that Respect is bury opposing.

Hate racism, really hate the trots

And while this celebrity obsessed SWP front are having a pop-concert and splitting the vote, the BNP will be on the door step talking to voters, listening to their concerns etc. if the y really want "respect" why do they allow Muslim clerics to ask for the room to be segregated so that they do not have to sit near a woman?

They might be shite, but I'm voting labour just to f**k the trots right out of it.

The main thing is to vote.

What will stop the BNP first and foremost is a high turnout. Love Music Hate Racism events and activity by Unite Against Fascism can help to get more people to vote, for whichever party they likes, which will help stop the BNP getting a breakthrough as there is a limit to how many people will vote for Nazis.

However, simply telling people to vote Labour to stop the BNP, and accusing Respect of 'splitting the vote' is not necessarily going to work as a strategy. While voting Labour is preferable to voting BNP, for many people Bliar's warmongering means that they will simply not vote for Labour this time round. Respect offers people an alternative to the identical mainstream parties of big business and war (or in the case of the Lib Dems, big business and war once it has started). In the case of the European elections, actually what will stop the BNP is a strong showing by a fourth party (eg Respect or the Greens) as it is Proportional Representation.

As Blair told a group of corporate executives recently, 'Labour means business'. Indeed it does. We need a socialist alternative to privatisation, racism and war, and Respect is about giving people that alternative they deserve. www.respectcoalition.org
