US plans to pull out of Falluja

[oh really???]

US marines have agreed a framework plan to withdraw from the flashpoint Iraqi city of Falluja, the American military commander besieging the city has said.
Lt Col Brennan Byrne said this would allow a newly created all-Iraqi force to take control of the city.

[with who???]

He said this would happen on Friday, but US defence officials in Washington denied knowledge of a any deal.

[oh dear , what was the title of this story again???]

And hours after the announcement, US warplanes hit insurgent targets in the city again, witnesses said.

[so...nothing has actually changed, then...warplanes are still dropping bombs on Iraqi's]

Falluja, a predominantly Sunni Muslim city of 300,000 people 50km (30 miles) west of the capital Baghdad, has been a hotbed of resistance to the US-led occupation of Iraq.

[here is some filler while we work out what to say next!]

US forces moved against insurgents in the city on 5 April following the gruesome killings of four American civilian contractors there.

[er...ditto]

Doctors in Falluja say some 600 people have already been killed since the siege began and thousands have fled.

Elsewhere in Iraq, 10 US soldiers have been killed in attacks - eight in a car bombing south of Baghdad.

[the 'terrible situation' softens us up for the killer line]

'Falluja Protection Army'

Col Byrne told reporters that the new Iraqi force would be set up under an agreement reached with local leaders.

[so, Iraqis want the brutal leaders and torture artist back do they...?]

He said it would be known as the Falluja Protection Army (FPA), and would be made up of about 1,100 Iraqi soldiers led by a former general from the Saddam Hussein era.

"The plan is that the whole of Falluja will be under the control of the FPA," said Col Byrne.

[now it's called the FPA- how professional sounding]

However, he said the force would ultimately be subordinate to the marines, who would remain in the area, but outside the city itself.

[so, the marines will still be shooting and killing...will they?]

The BBC's Dominic Hughes, in the Iraqi capital, says it is unclear just how much influence a new force would be able to exert over the rebel fighters in Falluja - or how effective it would be in bringing about an end to the fighting.

[for influence read -pacification - read MURDER]

And officials at the Pentagon insist that discussions are continuing - and that US marines have not begun disengaging from the area.

US commanders have held back from an all-out assault on the city.

[?????????? how many women, old & children dead isn't an all out assault???]

They insisted that the insurgents - who they say include former members of Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard military units and foreign Islamic militants - should turn in their heavy weapons. It is unclear whether this demand is covered by the reported agreement.

[anyway don't forget 'they' are all 'TERRORISTS' anyway...]

On Thursday, US troops at their main checkpoint on the edge of Falluja opened fire on a car that failed to stop, killing several Iraqi civilians.

[anyway...it's the yanks doing the killing antway, NO... the Brits....oh no...NOT OUR brave little soldiers...]

Heavy armour

In another development, the US has sent additional heavy tanks and armoured vehicles to Iraq to combat the recent upsurge in attacks on its forces there.

The move is at the request of military commanders on the ground.

The reinforcements being sent to Iraq include 28 giant M1 Abrams tanks.

April has seen more than 120 US troops killed in Iraq - by far the highest casualty rate since the toppling of Saddam Hussein a year ago.

[US troops are not pulling out of anywhere...er...what was this story about again...???]

In the US, a new opinion poll suggests dwindling support among Americans for the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Only 47% of 1,042 Americans questioned believed invading Iraq was the right thing to do, the lowest support recorded in the polls since the war began.

[Nobody is listening to the people...so sit back , eat those cheese curls, enjoy the show,
and vote for who we give you...that's right , just press those buttons...that's right...
now ...go back to sleep...nighty night!]
