Electronic Sit-in in support of Maori march

Malatesta Tangaroa | 27.04.2004 19:50 | Anti-racism | Repression | World

The TAKUTAI UNITED HACKTIVISTS ASSOCIATION (TUHA) have called for a cyber sit-in on the New Zealand Government Foreshore and Seabed website  http://www.beehive.govt.nz/foreshore/

BACKGROUND
Maori are the indigenous peoples of Aotearoa (New Zealand). The "Clean Green" image NZ presents to the world is just an ad campaign. Human rights and property rights are not safe in NZ. The NZ Crown/government have already confiscated much of Maori land. Now, spurred on by international foreign investment in the oil, fisheries, transport, and marine industry they have introduced legislation to confiscate our rights to the seabed and foreshore. They seek to deny Maori economic access to the seabed we have held for generations. This is legislative land theft!

THE SEABED AND FORESHORE ARE MAORI LAND
The government's long term plan is for Maori rights to disappear. They have already failed to destroy the Maori language and culture, now they want what's left of our land. Our voices are rarely heard in the mainstream media. The government is deliberately misrepresenting the facts. We must use alternative means to raise awareness of our plight.

In response, Maori tribes are planning a large scale protest march from their various tribal areas to converge on Parliament at the time the proposed legislation to remove the seabed and foreshore from Maori ownership is introduced: morning 5 May (NZ time).

TAKUTAI UNITED HACKTIVISTS ASSOCIATION (TUHA) presents Operation:

"Not One More Grain Of Sand"

We call for a simultaneous world-wide electronic sit-in to support this protest march. We need coordinated world-wide action to help raise the awareness of the international community to the current government's racist agenda. The sit-in will be on the official NZ Government Foreshore and Seabed website. You can download the script and unzip it onto your desktop computer. In it are detailed, very easy instructions on how to participate with the many thousands of others on the 5th of May (NZ Time).

Help us send a loud and clear NO to this government's racist agenda.

Visit our website below to find out how to participate.

Disclaimer: It is not the 'intention' of this sit-in to cause a denial of service on the Government Foreshore website. The intention of this sit-in is as stated to show international support for the Maori land owners and supporters marching to parliament, and to give an indication of just how many people around the world strongly object to the impending theft of Maori Land.

By sitting in on the foreshore page, the NZ Government will have some indication by the sheer numbers of visitors just sitting on the Foreshore Website, of those opposed to this legislation.

TUHA is not responsible for any denial of service or server bogging caused by this action - that can only come about due to the overwhelming international opposition to the Seabed Legislation...
