T&G to expell BNP member?

nomad | 27.04.2004 12:33 | Anti-racism

The TGWU in North Wales are considering what, if any, action to taken against a member of their union who is standing for the BNP in the European elections.

Quote from the corporate media:

Flintshire-based John Walker has been charged by the Transport & General Workers' Union with a string of offences, including breaking the union's equality and diversity rules by seeking to stand for the BNP.

He has also been charged with falsely describing himself as an active trade unionist on the BNP's website.

Yesterday, the 41-year-old former civil servant attended a disciplinary hearing at the North Wales TGWU Flint office.

Ten BNP members held a protest outside the Chester Street office, waving placards and the Union Flag. They were joined by two anti-BNP protesters but there were no disturbances.

...

Veteran anti-racism campaigner Wynne Davies, 69, said he felt let down by the poor turnout. He said: "I'm really disappointed in the Left. I don't know if people didn't know about it, but obviously they haven't turned up..

"The T&G will most certainly be letting its members down if they let these men get away with it. We don't want these people in Wales."
