Self hating Jews. Yes, they do exist

Gabriel Corsetti | 22.04.2004 12:57 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism

These are two examples of people who can only be called self-hating jews. The left wing should stop giving credit to similar people, and realize it has nothing to gain from anti-semitism

Israel Shamir:
A journalist who lives in haifa, israel. Russian origins. he claims to be a Jew, allthough he may simply be one of the many Russian Christians in Israel. however he is believed to be a Jew, so I include him.
In russia he used to write openly antisemitic articles for magazines on the far right. He now writes ferocioulsy anti-israeli articles which he coats in a liberal, leftist language. He often uses openly antisemitic imagery. For example, he once wrote an "easter maessage" to his readers which read:
"The Jewish supremacy forces and the greed worshippers united again to crucify Christ. The US, this New Rome, again gives hand and agrees to become the executioner. Now it is our turn to decide. History gave us an incredible luxury, Take Two, as they say in the movie production. We can now repeat the mistake of our fathers and silently connive with the plans of our self-appointed leaders. We can correct this mistake now, and stop the crucifixion."
He has also supported the theory that the mossad was behind the 11th of september attacks. In a lecture he once said to a shocked jewish audience:
"Palestinians are perfect mammals; their life is deeply rooted in the ground...Israeli people represent a virus form of a human being because they can live anywhere."
He obviously supports the idea of destroyng israel and building a binational state. His commentaries about the current conflict are often simply amusing, like when he claimed that israeli soldiers where intentionally shooting nuns in Bethlehem. When the famous antiglobalization activist naomi klein ( the author of "No Logo") dared to write an article condemning antisemitism, Shamir wrote that because Naomi Klein was Jewish, she only cared about Jewish interests. He also wrote that Mordechai Vanunu was imprisoned for so long because he had converted to Christianity, otherwise he wouldn't have been treated so harshly.
He has supported Le Pen in France because he will "fight Jewish power".
Shockingly his articles are found on many left wing sites....

Israel Shahak:
a possibly more serious case. Shahak was very definitely a Jew who resided in Jerusalem, allthough he was born in Poland. He was a university professor in Israel. He wrote books where he claimed to uncover the evil roots of the jewish religion. His most well known work is "Jewish history, Jewish religion". In this book he makes claims about Judaism which defy belief. For instance, he claims on pages 23-24 that orthodox Jewish children are taught to utter a ritual curse when they pass in front of a non-Jewish cemetery. He quotes very selective passages of the Talmud which, taken out of context, would seem to indicate that Jews are supposed to hate everyone else, and he insists many times that all modern day religious Jews preach hatred of non-Jews, allthough a brief look at the facts would dispel this myth. He also claims that on the Sabbath, Jews are only supposed to take action to save the life of a Jew, not of a non-Jew, allthough this is false as well.
He claims that Jews were persecuted during history because they felt superior and so they were hated. He even claims that the terrible pogroms of 17th century ukraine were actually progressive events, comparable to the Haiti slave rebelion or the French revolution. Shahak also recounts various episodes of Jewish persecution of Christians in the past which are obviously false. His opinion on Israel is that it wants to conquer the entire middle east for religious motives and that it's inhabitants hate non-Jews because of religious fanaticism. the fact that nearly half of Israeli Jews are secular and often despise ultra-orthodox Jews escapes him. his scholarly work is demonstrably based on false facts and conspiracy theories, allthough it may look convincing at first sight.
Obscenly, various left wing sites as well as neo-Nazi sites list his articles with pride, and he was invited to speak by American student unions.

Israel Shamir and Israel Shahak are just two examples. The left and the Palestinian movement have nothing to gain from anti-semitism and should not employ it. It also alienates left wing Israelis.
