TRADE: Localisation vs Globalisation; What is the GATS and what to do about it?; The role of business in development; Is ethical business
possible?; Is "sustainable development" a viable option for all?
PROSPECTS FOR PEACE: "Is the future of Iraq one of peace?"; Britain's role in keeping the world at war; The role of women in post conflict situations
ENVIRONMENT: Do we really need GM?; How successful is Kyoto at tackling climate change?; Where should our food come from?
HUMAN RIGHTS: Who controls the developing world?; Iraq: a human rights perspective; Migration and refugees- a global phenomenon?
Speakers include; Amnesty International, Centre for Human Ecology, Green Party, Jubilee Scotland, Oxfam, People and Planet, Rising Tide, Scottish Social Forum, Mark Ballard (Green MSP), PLAN International, War on Want, Womankind Worldwide, World Development Movement ....
Emphasis will be on fresh approaches to these contentious subject
areas through informed debate and participatory involvement.
Saturday will be based around informative seminars and the Sunday
will take on a more active slant on pro-active ways in which people
can make a difference.
This weekend follows a similar hugely successful event last year,
and will be even bigger. Whether you are new to the subjects or feel you have something to share, it promises to be a 48 hours not to
be missed.
Evening theatre, music and dance events are also being coordinated.
