Bayer Boycott continues.

The campaigns against Bayer and GM have claimed a major success as we continue our struggle to protect the UK against genetically modified crops. On 31st March Bayer announced that they will not commercialise their GM maize Chardon LL in the UK. This comes only weeks after the Government gave partial approval for the growing of this crop. The reason given by Bayer is that the climate of public opinion makes it economically unviable to grow it in the UK at the present time.

However, Bayer also stated that they remain committed to GM and will continue to push for commercial growing of GM crops. For example they have two more GM crops, a winter and a summer oilseed rape, in the pipeline. These crops did not get government approval this time round as they were found to be environmentally damaging in the farm scale trials, but Bayer is currently working to find a way around these restrictions.

Bayer continue as a major source of GM crops being produced worldwide and thus a supplier of a significant percentage of GM grain currently being imported into the UK. At the moment they are pushing for an import license for GM rice, backed by the UK Government.

For these reason we are continuing to call on you to boycott Bayer. It is important at this point to keep consumer pressure on Bayer to give them the clear message that GM is unacceptable to the British public. Order your posters now and keep up the good work….
