More support from trade unions (RMT, NATFHE) and the Muslim Association of Britain:

More RMT branches have voted to support Respect. Jubilee South and East London Line RMT voted unanimously to support Respect and Central Line West did the same by a two to one majority on a show of hands in the last couple of days. Together with RMT Manchester Piccadilly number one and Waterloo branches, this brings to four the number of branches voting to support Respect. Many more branches are due to hear Respect speakers over the next couple of weeks.

Latest: RMT Manchester Victoria have now also voted to support Respect.

The Muslim Association of Britain wishes to announce that its President Anas Altikriti, has stood down in order to fight the June 2004 European Parliamentary Elections in Yorkshire and Humberside under Respect, the Unity Coalition.

MAB will be fully supporting Anas Altikriti and the Respect slate in Yorkshire and Humberside in the European elections and calls on Muslims throughout the region to do the same.

Moving to appoint a successor, the Shura (Consultative) Council of MAB convened in an Extraordinary Meeting on Saturday the 27th of March and appointed Mr. Ahmed Al-Sheikh as new President.

MAB extends its best wishes to the outgoing President in his new endeavour, and looks forward to further success and advancement under the leadership of Ahmed Al-Sheikh.

The Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Council of the lecturers union NATFHE has passed the following motion nem con for debate at their annual conference:

'This conference welcomes the establishment of Respect – The Unity Coalition, which stands for Respect, Equality, Socialism, Peace, Environment, Community, Trade Unionism. Conference urges other trade unions to do likewise.'
