To Hide or not To Hide - That is the question.

Nice one, mate!

As a fellow IMCer (who doesn't hide comments) I have noticed that sometimes there is a little too much enthusiasm for hiding comments rather than for allowing free speech (whether you agree with it's content or not) to take place. I think on the whole, if someone posts something incredibly stupid on a website, they should expect the ire of others in response.

My point is that, given the chance, people will self-regulate in forums for discussion.

I understand that sometimes it is necessary to keep in check certain more extreme views, rather giving them a platform to offend/incite others, but, it's still a precarious balancing act to perform, and I still haven't been convinced where the cut-off point should be.
