Tomorrow there will be a traveller info nite at the London social centre- Grand Banks, Fortess rd opposite Tufnell park station- with films / talks / cafe and bar- in solidarity with evictions across the UK, building a network to fight evictions, solidarity with the Roma uprising in Slovakia
AND
VIRTUAL DEMO
On 1 April a Traveller family has been called in for a hearing by Wealden Council as part of a process working to evict them from their land. This is just another part of the ongoing assault on the Travellers’ way of life and culture. We are calling for a ‘virtual demo’ in support of the Moore family on 1 April. (around 10am or when you can) Please flood the Council email inboxes and fax machines with letters of solidarity.
SEND EMAILS, FAXES, AND PHONE CALLS to Wealden Council on 1 APRIL. Let the Council know that people are standing by Travellers as they continue their attacks and prejudice!
(see sample fax/email and contact info below…)
SAMPLE LETTER
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express my support for the Travellers at Little Oak in Crowborough. The Moore family have bought their land and are living there in a peaceful and productive manner. They have been accepted by many in the community and their children have adjusted comfortably to the local school. To work towards their eviction is unjust and prejudiced.
I wish to make it clear that I will remain in support of the Moore family and, if they are served with an eviction, I will be there to defend the family against a violent and illegal intrusion by bailiffs. They have a right to their home and their children have a right to a stable living situation. Moving them to a lesser site is not sufficient.
Sincerely -
