The Guardian introduces registration for its news archive!

nope | 28.03.2004 12:17 | Indymedia

A bit late, but from 11th of March the Guardian introduced registration for the privilege of looking of some of its archived news.

At the moment it is still unclear which articles need registration and why and what the longterm purpose of the registration is.
It is also not clear how much the public is deprived of information.

Other news outlets are already charging for access to their archives, therefore making research and access to information difficult and out-of-reach for underprivileged people or webarchives or search-engines.

Access to information and education should be free and unconditional, and though this mainstream media behaviour is to be expected it is still disppointing, especially for everybody who likes to cross-check information and who tries to think critically.
