More details about Scottish CND's demo at Easter

Top Scottish author Iain Banks (‘The Wasp Factory’, ‘The Crow Road’, ‘Complicity’) has sent a message of support for Scottish CND’s March and Rally at Faslane on Easter Monday (Monday 12th April)

His message reads:
“Memo to Tony Blair: instead of starting illegal wars over WMDs that don’t exist in the deserts and marshes of Iraq, why not peacefully dispose of the ones that definitely do in the lochs and glens of Scotland?
Have a good one. Best wishes, Iain Banks, 21.03.04”

The Easter Monday demonstration will start at 1pm opposite Faslane Peace Camp and will end with a rally at the main gate (North Gate) of the Faslane submarine base at 2.30pm.
Speakers confirmed include: AL Kennedy (author), Roseanna Cunningham MSP (SNP), Tommy Sheridan MSP (SSP), Chris Ballance MSP (Greens), Osama Saeed (Muslim Association of Britain), Morag Forbes (Faslane Peace Camp) and Alan Mackinnon (Scottish CND).
We also hope Sheboom and Samba ya Bamba will be there beating out a mean rhythm for the event.

More details are now available online at: www.banthebomb.org/events/faslane.shtml

Transport is being organised from around Scotland: phone 0141 423 1222 for more details or to book seats on the buses from Glasgow.

Over Easter weekend a group of up to 50 people will be on a Peace Walk leaving at 1pm from outside the City Chambers on Friday 9th April to reach Faslane in time to lead the march to the north gate. Why don’t you join them?

You will be stopping overnight in Clydebank, Dumbarton and Helensburgh and events and activities are being organised for along the route. The most you will walk each day is only ten miles and we’ll transport your baggage for you.

Please register as soon as you can by contacting the Scottish CND office at  scnd@banthebomb.org or on 0141 423 1222

Hope to see you there!
