Third camp still left at Blackwood

indymedia boris | 23.03.2004 23:37 | Ecology

After a hectic day of tree-climbing, bailiff dodging and tunnel-squelching,
the third of Blackwood's three camps still remains, as do several trees
on the Camp Kerry site.

Over the course of the day, bailiffs managed to clear all those in the
net, tunnel and treehouse at Camp Kerry. One brave activist still remained,
and was able to climb down later in the day without being nicked.

Camp Jordan is now just a painful tangle of fallen trees.

About 10 people were arrested, including those in the net at Camp
Kerry. As far as we know, people are all being arrested for breach
of the peace and then released without charge later.

Crowds of supportive locals looked on from behind the police cordon,
as did local TV media etc.

Resistance to the evictions and tree-felling WILL CONTINUE tomorrow,
with the possibility of getting up trees near Camp Kerry (tricky as the
lower branches have now been removed), or fortifying Camp Tree.

How successful this is will depend on numbers, so if you can, get
down there!
