Protests stop Harvey Nichols selling fur

Jenny Barnard | 23.03.2004 23:14 | Animal Liberation

Harvey Nichols owns 5 shops in the UK and animal rights groups have been protesting outside them for months as they sell clothes made of rabbit, fox and raccoon fur. A few days before a national day of action, the company officially withdrew all its fur and announced that it would not be selling it again.

Harvey Nichols, "is an international luxury lifestyle store specialising in food retailing and prestigious and exclusive brand name merchandise...." (www.harveynichols.com), or in other words, a playground for rich bastards. Manchester's Campaign Against the Fur Trade group have been involved in a national campaign that has relentlessly targetted this company. Every Saturday, protestors peacefully stood outside, handing out leaflets and talking to shoppers, encouraging them to complain to the management about the fur inside the shop. Campaigns like this show how powerful and effective the animal rights movement can be, particularly as we carried on campaigning after the fur season ended. At this point, Harvey Nichols knew that we would not back down. For more info about how to get involved in animal rights campaigning in Manchester, go to:
