resistance will continue after the eviction! phone to check current status before setting off :-)
we may lost trees, but we'll never lose the land - this time next year we'll have replanted the woods of St David!!!
CONTACT DETAILS: phone 07952 774525/ 07708 420 446
BASIC DIRECTIONS- bus to blackwood from Cardiff or Newport (closer). St davids wood visible on skyline on right hand side of valley (if you are coming from Cardiff- on left hand side if coming from the north) it's a 15 min walk from blackwood high street see directions below.
Driving- along high street, find the Asda on right hand side of road - follow the road round so you go past the other side of asda. at the mini-roundabout turn left down the hill, past kwik save. carry on down the hill, over the little bridge by the rock and fountain, and back up the hill on the other side.
the road takes a sharp right, with a residential road going off to the left on that curve. go up the residential road, jump through the fence onto the old railway track (just stones and mud now, no rails) and walk along there in the same direction. you'll see the destruction, and the new camps on the right.

Was there last week, but don't think I can get down there in time today. Have called all the numbers.
The Police are convinced that the eviction is legal.
Called Cardiff Court too. Situation seems to be that it *is* legal for them to evict, but if the appeal which is pending goes against them *then* it will have become illegal.
They're having to gamble that the appeal will go in their favour. Pretty stupid thing to do, really, but they're probably thinking that they have to evict before the Appeal is heard, because at the moment the police can't stop them.
If the camps can hold out until the Appeal, then *if* it goes our way, eviction *will* then become illegal and the police will have to stop it.
Hopefully I'll be able to get their tomorrow, but not promising anything.

The eviction is illegal.
borrrrrriiiiss
is this legal or not
23.03.2004 14:54
well, technically it is not unlawful at the present time. High Court Judge Roy basically overturned the previous high court judge's decision that the posession order was to be suspended.
So - this eviction is not showing respect to the court of appeal, and may be found to be illegal at some point in the future, but it is not technically completely unlawful :-(
basically, as far as anyone knows, no legal professionals have been so slimy and disrespectful of the workings of the law to do this before. Edwards Geldard deserve recognition of this...
(Costain's solicitors: Tel: 029 2023 8239, Fax: 029 2023 7268, email: info@geldards.co.uk)
similarly the police and the sheriff's office are laying themselves open to contempt of court and unlawful acts - this is the kind of thing they should not be doing.
(but then again, we all know they serve money, not the law, or even us, the taxpayers who pay their wages...)

My heart goes out to the people of Blackwood and everyone who has spent time in St David's Wood stopping work and resisting the destruction. I grieve for the amazing trees and all the animals that used to live there.
Costain will pay for this. The road is not yet built, pixies and digger divers awaken! Start planning your day and night trips to Blackwood!
There are a hundred oaks growing in my backyards waiting to be planted. Trees will yet grow again in St David's Wood.
