Human Right Violations In Syrian Occupied Lebanon Must Stop

MARK DAMELI | 13.03.2004 16:27 | Animal Liberation | Cambridge | London

In a savage reaction against the Lebanese students’ peaceful demonstration protesting the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, the Syrian installed Lebanese regime use of barbaric force sent several youngsters with broken bones to hospitals on Friday, March 12, 2004

Hundreds of students, males and females, got tortured inside or near their college campuses. Pascal Kalife, Tony Nohra, Patrick Rizkallah, Bassel Younis, Youssef Bou Serhal, Bassel El Hage, and Raked El Hage are among the hospitalized with serious injuries. Meanwhile, dozens were detained, taken to the Syrian-style Lebanese jails of torture; joining many others who have previously been arrested for their peaceful stand against the Syrian occupation.

The Council of Lebanese American Organizations (CLAO) condemns such barbaric actions and is concerned about the continuous human right violations in the Syrian-occupied Lebanon. Similar violations occurred on March 10, 2004. The Syrian-installed Lebanese puppet corrupt regime seems to be determined to follow the Syrian Baath’s doctrine of terror despite numerous international human right organizations’ criticism.

As an American organization, CLAO appeals to the U.S. Administration to publicly denounce the human right violations carried out by the Syrian-installed Lebanese regime against the citizens of Lebanon. Since October 13, 1990, the day that the Syrian air power and tanks were able to topple the last legal and legitimate Lebanese government, led by Prime Minister Gen. Michel Aoun, forcing it into exile, over a million out of three and a half million Lebanese have managed to flee the country, escaping the oppression and torture inflicted upon them by the terrorist sponsors Syrian occupiers, their surrogate terrorist militias, and their installed puppet Lebanese regime. Such regime betrayed the Lebanese and sold them to their Syrian totalitarian masters. Such corrupt individuals transferred the Lebanese well-established democratic institutions into a Syrian style dictatorship and are only concerned about government seats while selling off the country and driving its economy to chaotic ends.
