Our hearts reach out to the victims of Madrid, and also the victims of the whole world from Palestine to Columbia, and their loved ones who grieve. The horror of the Madrid attack shows that our rulers are not really interested in protecting the lives of the people. The so called ‘war on terror’ is a sick joke.

One year ago, on the day the US and UK forces invaded Iraq, it was obvious that this would generate more terrorism, rather than stop it. Nearly everyone could understand this.

The ruling elites in US and UK are not trying to stop terrorism, they have another agenda. They know that however many terrorist bombs they provoke, these atrocities can not really harm the vital interests of their system. They will only kill innocent civilians. For right wing politicians, these atrocities, while tragic, can be useful in helping them to whip up domestic support for war, repression and the removal of human rights and civil liberties.

What will our rulers do now? Invade another country to ‘root out’ the terrorists? Imprison more people in camps? Bring in ID cards? They can not stop the bombs.

We know that the only way to stop terror campaigns is to address and solve the genuine grievances the terror groups exploit, not make them worse. This cuts them off from mass support. We need to push the world towards greater justice and equality for everyone. That is the only way to real security and freedom. That is why it is more important than ever to come to the march in London long planned for Sat 20th March. The global day of protest against imperialist war and occupations will be our answer to all the terrorists, whether they plant their bombs on trains, or like our rulers, drop them from planes.
