Remaking Internationalism
Social Forums and the Politics of Global Solidarity
Across the globe an extraordinary range of groups and movements are challenging the rule of the American empire and the US model of neoliberalism.
The globalisation of this resistance is best represented by the growth of the World and European Social Forums. In Mumbai, Porto Allegre, Florence and Paris hundreds of thousands of activists have come together inspired by the idea that another world is possible.
In October 2004 London will host the next European Social Forum.
On Friday 5th March author and anti-war campaigner Tariq Ali was joined by speakers from key activist groups in Italy, France and South Africa to explore how pluralist practice of grassroots internationalism might help shape the future of oppositional politics in Britain.
An MP3 of Tariq Ali's talk is attached here.
