Costain subcontractors drive through human chain of activists on Friday.
Blackwood police investigating.

On Friday afternoon Costain sub contractors (Walters) drove a tractor through a human chain of activists who were preventing logs from leaving a field.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident despite activists falling under the wheels and undercarriage. The machinery was stopped by on looking Walters’ management who despite ordering the tractor to drive through us, screamed at the driver to stop as activists disappeared under the machinery.

This is the latest in a spate of violence by Costain as they get increasingly frustrated at the delays caused by the campaigners...

However it was the first incident caught on film, two video cameras recorded the incident.
Copies of the footage are now in the hands of Blackwood police who are investigating.

A spokesman for Costain told the South Wales Argus "We maintain the protesters were throwing themselves in front of the vehicle - the machine did not hit them"

Yesterday works were completely halted by protestors when they climbed onto machinery (diggers and chippers) after breaking through security lines. Police were called to the scene but no arrests were made. Costain made no comment on the events.
