People went to the high court yesterday (4th March) and the eviction order was put on hold. This means we now have another court date in Blackwood sometime in the week starting 22nd March.

BUT - we still desperately need people down here. THIS ONE IS WINNABLE, but we need more people. If Costain can't get on with the work they'll have to give up (it's a PFI road) - so come and help stop work now!!!!!!!!

Blackwood people have called on supporters to politely ask subcontractors working on the Blackwood Bypass in S.Wales to stop destroying the last woodlands in the valley. They suggest that the following company in particular may be open to contact. Please phone or visit them as often as you think necessary. If you contact them you may wish to point out that their machinery and staff are subject to a criminal investigation in regard to trashing bats, dormice and bat habitats - these are protected under the Wildlife Act, and to trash them is a criminal offence.
This contractor has hired a massive excavator with long reach - it is used to drag felled trees up or down steep embankments to the chipper. If this contractor pulls out then Costain and Caerphilly County Council will find it difficult to continue building this unwanted road...

The Blackwood Bypass will destroy the last woodland in the area - much of it mature oak and beech, killing rare species such as dormice, bats and slowworms. It is being built to serve a bomb factory just down the road, and local people hate it... so if your thing is animal rights, peace, local communities or ecology then get on that phone, fax or email now....

WE HAVE HAD THE ORDER GRANTING IMMEDIATE POSSESSION OVERTURNED IN THE HIGH
COURT IN LONDON! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!
in the words of the judge:
"it is ordered that the said order of district judge asplin be suspended
pending the hearing of the application for permission to appeal"
ie, we have more time to get our shit together and apply to appeal the
decision to grant possession (case to be heard week beginning MARCH THE 22ND)-
and in the meantime the possession order has been revoked!!!!!!!!!!!
yes!!!! this is as good as it gets chaps, hooray, and boy was the undersherriff
cross when i phoned him with the glad tidings late yesterday afternoon. though
they (ie, costain, caerphilly council at sirhowy emterprise way) have leave to appeal this decision of course.
very sorry to hear people are still getting trashed by fat bailiffs and costain workersup at
site.

BUT
a cordon has gone around the Ancient Woodlands and they've just started cutting the big trees!
They're ignoring the dormice and bats, they don't give a toss, they're just determined to destroy the wood before any legalities can stop them!
People needed ASAP to stop them!
Bailiffs, security and police on site, many threats to certain camp residents - they need help NOW!

please get down here and help out. with people we can stop this road - it's really winnable, which is why costain is going all out and breaking the law to try to get it done before their money runs out...
there's been some rumblings in court, costain are trying to get the next court case over the possession order brought forward... watch this space...
BUT GET DOWN THERE NOW - AMAZING WOODS, AMAZING ATMOSPHERE, AND A VERY WINNABLE CAMPAIGN!!!!!
