Anarchy in Haiti

Realistic | 01.03.2004 11:49

Why aren't we celebrating?

Anarchy has been achieved in Haiti so where are all the posts celebrating this? Redistribution (looting) has already begun, isn't this fantastic?

Look at how great it is, its a veritable utopia over there with no evil government to keep law and order or run services.

Sigh...

Anarachy is NOT chaos. What is happening in Haiti is neither - it's a right-wing corporatist coup.

try studying reality, realistic...

realistic,

your post shows not only a completely distorted misunderstanding of the term 'anarchy' when used in this context, but also shows a terrible lack of research into the reality of the current situation in haiti. these are sad days for the people of haiti and those in solidarity everywhere and happy days for the ruling elite who now control haiti. i would suggest that dunc hit the nail on the head...sigh...

Its a US backed coup anyway but

Anarchy = chaos, disorder
Anarchism = political philosophy based on direct participatory democracy and mutualism

back the religious guy

01.03.2004 22:03

The now president in exile is a religious guy who likened capitalism to the devil and has disbanded the death squads. No wonder the US wants rid of him, he is on *our* team. The reaction against him and the looting is from reformed death squads, the french and the US have realised they went too far so are quickly negotiating in the UN for a peace keeping force to shut pandoras box.

destroyer of culture

it is anarchy

How else can it be anything but anarchy.

Haiti is what anarchy would be like in the REAL world where REAL people are competitive not co-operative by nature.

Anarchism just isn't going to happen in the utopian way it'd just be warlords.

Hierarchy is natural, people will always find ways of finding a hierarchy, whether thats the law of the jungle or governments.

Put a plug in it

Realist you're just spewing utter crap to wind everyone up. Get a life or at least find something more interesting to do.

No you Bogg Off

Just because someone dares to criticism your precious anarchism you try to shut them up. In fact realist is right, hierarchy is in human nature, there will NEVER be an ararchist utopia, all we can hope for is that that people's standard of living is improved as much as possible, without people trying to push forward unrealistic dreams and ideals.

Lack of realisitic logic

Oh no not more Realist crap. Your argument seems to be that if the world disintegrated into anarchy then we'd just have a load of warlords? Well Realist you've just defeated your own argument, cos "anarchy" in the political context means "without leaders". If there are a load of warlords fighting each other then that is hardly anarchy, because the warlords are the leaders...

Oh and isn't the world already ruled by the biggest warlord of all with a poodle sidekick??

Really fed up with realist

By the way, i don't actually consider myself an anarchist before you all get so triumphalist about boxing people into nice little ideological packages. I was just pointing out that the situation in Haiti is not anarchism, but a coup by a brutal (US-Backed) corporatist militia.

Hierarchy can certainly be emergent, but thats not to say it should not be accountable. Stating that 'Hierarchy is natural' is a bit like saying murder, rape, genocide etc is natural; thoughtless status quo apologism.

(REAL) DEMOCRACY IN THE UK!
