Yesterday 200 students occupied the Town Hall for one hour against top-up fees as part of a 300 strong demonstration involving students from Sheffield Uni and Hallam. Everyone agreed it had been a highly successful action.
Yesterday was a national day of action called by the NUS against the top-up fees. The protests were given extra impetus by the solid AUT strike which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday - shuting down the university campus.
Before storming the town hall students had stopped outside the Bailey Court job centre on West Street and chanted 'Sol-sol-sol-solidarity' in support of civil servants who had been on strike last week over thew pittence that they are paid.
The occupation took a vote on what to do and overwhelmingly decided to end the occupation at 2pm - as we marched from the building chanting we were applauded by the assembled crowd.
