Argentinian film screening
imc-sheffield | 23.02.2004 09:40 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Sheffield
Sheffield Indymedia is showing a series of short films about the struggles at the Argentinian Brukman textiles factory in Abbeyfield Park House, Burngreave at 1930, Wednesday 25 February. One of the film-makers will also be attending.
Sheffield Indymedia invites you to a film screening on Wenesday 25 February, when we will be showing a series of short films from Argentina about the struggles at the Brukman textile factory. We are lucky enough to have one of the filmmakers available to answer questions after the screening.
when: 1930, Wednesday 25 February 2004
where: Community Room, Abbeyfield Park House, Abbeyfield Road, Burngreave, Sheffield S4 7AT
There is no admission charge, but we will be taking a collection to cover our guest's railfare. Anything left will go towards the continuing struggles at Brukman.
A little background:
"Control Obrero" - Workers Control
"La Fabrica Es Nuestra" - The Factory is Ours
"Obreras Sin Patron" - Workers without a Boss
Since December 2001, the Brukman textile factory in Argentina has been the focus of confrontation between a strong workers' movement and the forces of capital. Following attempts to close the factory, it was occupied by the workers and production continued in the face of an increasingly violent response from their former bosses, backed by government forces. This series of short films follows the turbulent fortunes of this revolution.

We do regular film screenings in Cambridge too and the majority are from other countries. This isn't surprising given the global nature of capitalism and the movement that opposes it. However, it is always good to be reminded that the struggle goes on closer to home as well. So if you have any films in mind and (even better!) where to get hold of them, please add a comment here with details...

if you're following the discussions we're having on the imc-sheffield list [1], where the collective publicly does its business [2], you'll be aware that quite a few screenings are potentially coming up in the next few months.
we are keen to hear what you want to see. if you know of a film that we don't know -- tell us!

organisation www.cultureshop.org and pirate tv.net is a good place to get
lots of interesting ivestigative articles that all activists will find
very useful. Sorry to say, better than IndymediaUK.
