A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, China, Russia, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 20) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:51)
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- First, the Dutch press has a few comments on the US presidential campaign. The President of Iran urges the people to vote despite the fact that 2000 candidates for various seats were excluded from the ballot. President Aristide has called for international aid to put down the rebellion in Haiti- the US is not answering the call but France is considering sending troops. The International Committee of the Red Cross has sharply criticized Israel for the wall it is building.
From China- 2 explosions near the Japanese Defense Ministry may have been in protest of Japanese troops being sent to Iraq. The BBC has been attacked for running a story questioning Tony Blair's veracity- and after many forced resignations and staff protests, the government may break the radio network into 4 pieces.
From Russia- Russia is pleased to announce its growing share of gas and oil sales in Europe. Hans Blix, David Kay and hundreds of others are insisting that Bush and Blair admit that the allegations of Iraq possessing WMDs were false.
From Spain- First a series of stories from South and Central America. Then a press review on the situation in Haiti.
From Cuba- Hugo Chavez is renewing his assertion that the US government is trying to overthrow his presidency of Venezvuala, and that they were involved in the failed coup in 2002. The Arab world has called the new US funded Arab language TV network "slanted, arrogant, and condescending." S African Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu has called on Bush and Blair to apologize for launching an immoral war against Iraq.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
