1. The Aldermaston March, 9-12 April 2004

Almost 50 years after the first London to Aldermaston anti-nuclear march, a new generation of marchers are taking to the streets to demonstrate their concerns over the development of a new generation of nuclear weapons, and to call for the Government to disarm its nuclear arsenal.

The march begins with a major send-off rally in Trafalgar Square at 11am on Good Friday (April 9th). It then travels through Southall, Slough and Reading, reaching the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Aldermaston (  http://reclaimthebases.gzzzt.net/nbases_12.html ), Berkshire on Easter Monday (April 12th). The starting points for each day are easily accessible from public transport links. Feeder marches are being arranged for those outside the Thames Corridor.

See  http://www.aldermaston2004.net for more info.

2. Aldermaston Bike Ride 2004

The Aldermaston Bike Ride is closely linked to the march. Every day, it will start with the march, and it aims to finish together with the march. It is agreed with the march organisers that while in march cyclists will push their bikes, for the safety of the marchers. We will also share accommodation with the march, and food.

However, during the day the Aldermaston Bike Ride will leave the march, and will visit companies and military infrastructure close to the march route, to make the links from the developments at Aldermaston to the new military strategies of "pre-emptive" war and military intervention, as they are described in the Defence White Paper (  http://www.mod.uk/publications/whitepaper2003/volume1.pdf )from December 2003. Possible "visits" include Serco's Investor Relations department (  http://tinyurl.com/3ar5b )in Richmond or KBR (  http://reclaimthebases.gzzzt.net/nnews_89.html ) at Greenford (  http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=514445&y=181794&z=5&sv=514445,181794&st=4&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&dn=863 ), RAF Strike Command (  http://www.reclaimthebases.gzzzt.net/weekly_7.html ) in High Wycombe (  http://www.raf.mod.uk/stations/comnd_hq.html#highwycombe ), and other "establishments" en route. Different forms of nonviolent protests will be practiced at different places, to be planned by the cyclists.

3. Organisation
The final route of the Aldermaston Bike Ride will be planned prior to the ride, and all those interested can join the planning process, or send in suggestions (the Reclaim The Bases (  http://www.reclaimthebases.org.uk ) website is a good resource here).

Registration for the Bike Ride is requested, just to make it easier to plan, especially for organising food and accommodation. Cyclists can register using the general Aldermaston March 2004 registration form (  http://www.aldermaston2004.net/register/ ) , and should tick the cyclist box. Registered cyclists will then be subsribed to an email list, so that they will receive updates on the cycle ride.

The Aldermaston Bike Ride is organised by The D10 Group (  http://thed10group.gzzzt.net ).
