Bayer GM background

admin | 09.02.2004 21:47

Since aquiring Aventis Cropsciene a couple of year ago, Bayer AG has become the owner of all the varieties set to be planted first in the UK, should the government give for go ahead for commercial growing of GM crops.

As the primary company set to profit from commercialisation, Bayer has become one focus for the anti-GM movement, and the subject of a UK wide (and occasionally international) campaign against ALL of Bayer's business interests.

Any group or individual can take part in the campaign which aims to put pressure, economic and otherwise, on the entire company so that it pulls out of it's recent ventures into the field of GM.

There is no central organisation or membership behind the campaign, it exsists as little more than the Stop Bayer GM Crops website, acting as a hub for sharing information, resources and publishing details of past and future events.

Articles posted on Indymedia UK that relate to Bayer's involvement in GM crops in the UK should appear under the Biotechnology topic page and on the Biotech IMC website.
