Trouble down South

An example of a branch of Indymedia falling short of its high ideals.

“...open, inclusive and able to embrace conflicting viewpoints....a far better way of communicating ideas (allowing people to work connections out, formulate their own viewpoints based on diverse opinions...)”
Oxford Indymedia Mission Statement

I have already quoted these idealsitic extracts on a newswire which had been censored to the extent of 25% of the contributions being suddenly cut out (circa 10 of the circa 40 comments removed). It is noticeable that the exceptionally long and elaborate “quick comments” of one side of the discussion have been left in. My protests (and others too) were promptly removed. That particular news story is there to stimulate discussion. It actually includes the words: “Whats Your Opinion? Add Your Comments Below” This very item which you are reading was fist published, naturally, on Oxford Indymedia, but they very soon removed it. The discussion in question is about the merits of different types of pie, not about the rights or wrongs of the war in Iraq.
