Oxford Indymedia's Mission
Rogerox | 03.02.2004 01:28 | Indymedia
A brief review of the extent to which Indymedia Oxford is living up to certain aspects of its mission statement.
“...open, inclusive and able to embrace conflicting viewpoints....a far better way of communicating ideas (allowing people to work connections out, formulate their own viewpoints based on diverse opinions...)”
Oxford Indymedia Mission Statement
I have already quoted these idealistic extracts on a newswire which had been censored to the extent of 25% of the contributions being suddenly cut out (c10 of the c40 comments removed). It is noticeable that the exceptionally long and elaborate “quick comments” of one side of the discussion have been left in.
My protests at this action (and others too) were promptly removed. Yet this particular news story is there to stimulate discussion. It actually includes the words: “Whats Your Opinion? Add Your Comments Below”
Whatever went wrong ?
