A brief update on the 40th day of the hunger strike at Seven Sisters

Today, January 30, is the 40th day of the hunger strike in a tent at Seven Sisters, North London, in protest against the use of extreme forms of prison isolation/solitary confinement in Turkey. The three people who have been on hunger strike for the full 40 days - Ayfer Yildiz, Ibrahim Yalcin and Ulas Kecis - are well, although at this stage of the hunger strike there is a danger of a sudden deterioration in their health.

The Seven Sisters hunger strike is to end on Day 45, Wednesday, February 4, 2004. In Turkish prisons, eight people are currently on hunger strike in protest at prison isolation and their hunger strike is continuing.
