BAA Offices Occupied

People are currently occupying the BAA Offices to protest the proposed new runway at stansted.

****Press Release****
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Offices of BAA are currently being occupied by people opposed to the addition of an extra runway in the South-East.

BAA are already in the process of building a new terminal at Heathrow and have just been given the go-ahead for a new runway at Stansted.

For local people the most immediate issues are aircraft noise, traffic congestion and air pollution. For those living on the site proposed for the new runway, it is also about losing their homes.

However this is not just an issue for those under the flight path. Air travel is the fastest growing contributor to global warming. Globally the world's 16,000 commercial jet aircraft generate more than 600 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), the world's major greenhouse gas, per year. Indeed aviation generates nearly as much CO2 annually as that from all human activities in Africa.

Global warming brings more natural disasters, spreads infectious diseases and destroys flora and fauna across the planet.

Airport expansion is just one more way that global capitalism is destroying the planet. The desperate drive for profit at the expense of both people and the environment can and must be stopped.

WE CAN STOP EXPANSION
