Ask george galloway what the worst event for him was?
was it saluting sadam?
was it making the anti-war movement guilty by association with him?

it was neither of these it was the collapse of the soviet union, or maybe it is when colenol gaddaffi said he was gonna suck up to the west and hand over WMD?

And would it not be nice to have a new party with new faces and a younger more youthful membership, instead of the middle aged white men like Marek, Galloway and the usual suspects etc

Intoroducing R.E.S.P.E.C.T - The Unity Coalition

Unlike the Socialist Alliance which was constructed out of existing left wing organisations, the new coalition will arise more organically from the movement - from all quarters their is pressure for a convincing mass party alternative to Labour - from the trade union movement, ordinary people etc. - at every stop-the-war meeting people have raised the issue of the need for an alternative.

As to the point about the white, middle aged men I agree with you - it was a point I raised with the organiser - I personally thought that they should have asked a young attactive arab woman like myself to speak, but Galloway is a fiery speaker and these meetings have drawn hundreds across the country. (As to John Marek - I can't stand the guy!)

But despite high profile supporters like George Monbiot, Yvonne Ridley (Prisoner of the Taliban), Ken Loach, Alex Cox, and Trade Union leaders like Mark Serwotka and Bob Crow and all the other "left wing celebs" who will probably jump aboard, if the coalition will suceed it will be have to be built from below at the grassroots. . .

The future ........?

Confrontational party politics is dead, as is the system that supports it. Any attempt to revive it will just be laughed at by those in power. It's time to ignore them and DIY !
It's time for a BIG change - the sooner the better !

nothing "organic" about it. you trots keep trying to co-opt our language. it's the same old shite from the SWP, only this time you've got some liberals and muslims along for the ride. soon you'll be trying to herd us all into neat lines in london to hear speeches from benn and monbiot, and selling us your fucking papers. we're not interested.
