INTRODUCTION TO INDYMEDIA FOR NEW VISITORS

Owing to the increasing frequency with which posts are being 'hidden', i.e. deleted, from Indymedia UK, here is a helpful guide to how to fit in to the Indymedia UK gang - and avoid having your carefully created posts gobbled up by one of the most ruthlessly censored websites around.
Comments are invited - get 'em in quick before THE BOSS deletes it all! (For the second time!)

1. Champion the rights of women and minorities, but ONLY when those rights are threatened by white European men. We mustn't judge cultures in which forcibly circumcising a woman with a broken bottle is acceptable.
2. Protect Islamic terrorists from the justice dispensed by their victims, especially if the victims are Jews.
3. All viewpoints are true, except for the ones we haven't dictated to you, in which case you are a racist.
4. At no time must anyone demonstrate even the vaguest knowledge of anything. Ranting is better than rationale.
5. Anything, however preposterous, may provide a potential basis for a conspiracy thread, esp. tap water, vapour trails.
6. Claiming 'popular' support is optional (especially if your therapist thinks it will help), but naturally it must always be imagined or exaggerated to a preposterous degree.
7. Palestine is the only important conflict 'cos it's dead exciting and you can get in the papers or on the telly or even a book deal! Other conflicts - Chinese occupation of Tibet, Syrian occupation of Lebanon, for example, are not as fashionable and can be justified simply by changing the subject to Palestine.
8. Free speech is sacrosanct, except in cases when someone isn't following the rules, in which case THEY MUST BE SILENCED!

You may also wish to read the 'hidden' submissions (it IS possible to do so) and recognise why they have been excluded.

Benefits and Problems

There are benefits and problems with hiding. UK does not always get it right, but I do not understand what you are getting at in your listing. For example what does
"5. Anything, however preposterous, may provide a potential basis for a conspiracy thread, esp. tap water, vapour trails." mean?
I think you are saying write about them and UK will publish it and make it big. But do you mean they are hiding such? I have seen such items hidden.
Have you really detected a BOSS? Some think that is the great lack. If it is a lack, then perhaps it is a necessary part of the process to evolve a working system that is a real long term alternative to the mainstream system where psychopathic paranoid magalomaniacs (sometimes sub-clinical) normally end up in control.
The real lacks in the site is a search facility, and it is very difficult to look back to see what was written once an item falls off the listing into the archive.
However UK is still functional. It seems that Portugal, which planned to publish everything and argue the cases they disagreed with found that too difficult to maintain and are having to merge with another IMC. Whether through getting swamped, or through internal personal difficluties is not clear.
