FreeCycle Sheffield

Purple | 05.01.2004 01:01 | Ecology | Globalisation | Sheffield

FreeCycle.org is an international network comprising of local groups. Sheffield FreeCycle was the first FreeCycle group in the UK, and now there is also a group in Stoke-on-Trent

The Worldwide Freecycle Network is open to all cities and to all individuals who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! One constraint: everything posted must be free. Just sign up with this Sheffield, UK group directly at  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sheffield-Freecycle/ . "Think globally, recycle locally."

This network is organized by "Downtown Don't Waste It," a nonprofit RISE recycling organization in Tucson, Arizona. It is run by local volunteer moderators across the globe who make each local group what it is — Grassroots at its best!

Post to a group of Sheffield FreeCyclers any items which you have but no longer need or want, (all free, remember) or request an item you need (again, for free).

Join now - whether you've got things to get rid of, you're moving house, or you're looking for something, Sheffield-FreeCycle is the place to do it!!

Just to let people know there are a number of similar, e-mail-based Swapshop groups around the country. Here in Lancaster you can join by sending a message with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line to  swapshop@btopenworld.com . All items must be free, swapped, or extremely cheap…
There are other groups: Swapshop in Bristol.
Swapshop in Bath.

An easier way to freecycle

24.01.2006 11:38

There is an easier, search based Freecycle tool available at www.greengonzo.com which provides a searchable database so you can just enter a keyword and find what you need. I believe this is the way forward for freecycling!

Great way to get and give for free

27.01.2006 17:15

There's a brilliant new way to give and get things for free, preventing your waste from being thrown into landfills. Take a look at  http://www.greengonzo.com/
Its much easier than freecycle because there are no mailing lists involved, you just search for what you need.

Sheffield Freecycle has changed

14.09.2009 05:32

Hi Sheffield Freecycle has changed. There is a Sheffield South and East Freecycle group, and also a Sheffield Noth and West Freegle Group.

Due to the owner of Freecycle in America wanting to keep full control and do things his way rather than accept that UK freecycle would be better if things were done another way, many of the Freecycle groups in the UK have moved over to becoming Freegle instead.

Please update your page.
