Canada Police Raid Government Office in Drug Probe

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - A 20-month investigation into organized crime led to a raid on the offices of two
British Columbia government ministers, although neither is implicated in the probe, Canadian police said on Monday.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, acting under a search warrant, removed boxes of documents on Sunday from the offices
of two provincial government employees. Canadian media identified the pair as aides to the finance and transportation ministers
in the west coast province.

RCMP spokesman Sergeant John Ward declined to comment on their identities, but said the information prompting the search
at the legislature in Victoria, British Columbia, came to light during a lengthy investigation that resulted in the arrest last week of
nine people in three cities.

Ward said those arrested in Vancouver, Toronto and Victoria were implicated in selling B.C.-grown marijuana to the United
States in exchange for cocaine to be sold in Canada.

Police estimate the illegal marijuana trade in British Columbia to be worth more than C$6 billion ($4.5 billion) a year, with most
of the potent "B.C. bud" eventually sold in the United States
