ANTISEMITIC INCITEMENT ON SYRIAN TV

JEW | 26.12.2003 04:49

The Board of Deputies has written to the Foreign Secretary Jack Straw to express its concern regarding a programme called “The Diaspora – Al Shatat” which is a Syrian produced 30-part series broadcast on Al Manar, Hizbollah TV.

The series is based on the traditional antisemitic libels found in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Throughout the series, Jews are described as greedy and bloodthirsty, interested only in power and world domination from the Land of Israel, called “Palestine”. In one episode there is an obscene graphic depiction of a Christian child being kidnapped by Jews, his throat cut, his blood collected in a bowl and then used to make Passover Matzah.

Board Director General Neville Nagler commented, “The Board feels strongly that this Syrian television series, whose sole raison d’etre is to stoke the flames of hatred against Jewish people, should not be allowed to be broadcast anywhere in the world. We urge the Government to make clear to the Syrian authorities that it is completely unacceptable to allow such television programmes to be broadcast. Any country which seeks to justify such transmissions can only be described as part of the Axis of Evil.”
