Usual thing, modem friendly low bandwidth versions uploaded here on Indymedia UK and high quality screening versions available from www.v2v.cc etc.

Real alternative

I don't want to encourage the use of RealPlayer which is shit bloated spyware but I can't provide something that works on all machines without hassle. I usually try to upload multiply versions but Indymedia UK is playing up and even at the best of times it is hell uploading even small videos to indymedia (I takes me longer to sort out indymedia that to upload a file over ten times the size to www.v2v.cc).

Anyway, I've tried to creat a small quicktime version but I've got some techie problem and keep getting faulty out of sync vids so I gave up.

Unless you are on a Mac, I suggest that you consider downloading the free realplayer and instead of using it, download Real Alternative (Media Player Classic) and use that (it uses bits of the Realplayer to work).

I'll try to sort out some better way of making multi platform modem friendly video that doen't use propriotory codecs...

Use flash

26.12.2003 05:11

Flash now supports video. You can just place the flash video file on the server and it will automatically stream and you can also use streaming if you want. But it would be best if you could use flash as it the most widely installed plugin.

UPDATE - better versions of our videos online now

31.12.2009 22:50

So you've come across this old article but the links don't work?

Over the years that real2reel have been posting videos and links to indymedia, technology and bandwidth have improved but websites have come and gone. While indymedia is still here, many of the sites which hosted our videos are long gone and any video you can still get at is usually only very low bandwidth versions which might have been great five years ago but are now rightly considered to be very poor quality in comparison with other videos now available online.

We've started going trawling the net and our own archives to get all those videos online again in as good quality as possible. We've been posting the videos to blip.tv and from there they are also uploaded to youtube, archive.org and other sites. Hopefully, if the links in the article above arn't working, or the quality is low, you'll find we have now uploaded a new version.

Find all the videos on Blip TV here  http://real2reel.blip.tv
(archives here  http://real2reel.blip.tv/posts?view=archive&nsfw=dc)

We've also set up a wordpress blog  http://real2reel.wordpress.com from which you can pull feeds.
You can also follow our new twitter account to hear about new videos as they are posted.
