I have seen many pathetic mercenary acts by dosy cops but the PSNI definitely win the prize. It was while Bush was in N.I. and there was a sit down protest out side the City Hall. It was the sort of thing that had been going on throughout the war- school kids, hippies, mothers, blocking the road. Because Bush was about and the powers that be didn't want any displays of dissent, the riot plods lumbered in all geared up and started dragging people off the road. Lots of wee kids were very brave and linked arms as the tooled up plods started whacking at them. People who would normally have stood at the side were so incensed at the police's behaviour that the protest grew rather than subsided. At one point some riot plod lashed at out a woman, nobody knew why, but the chant went round the crowd "6277 do you beat your wife?" and then "6277 do you have a wife". As disbelief mounted the riot plods were eventually ordered to stand down and, having toally humiliated themselves broken a school boys arm and someone elses ribs, they retreated as we sang 'championes' to celebrate.

Some people hate the police and I can understand why- my first digs in the ribs from a cop came when I was 14. But I don't really see it as a personal thing, most of them just got into it as lower middle class kids who weren't too bright and couldn't find anything better to do with their lives. If you have grounds to think an arrest was unlawful, then I suggest complaints are made re: the usual channels.

We don't stop&search/make arrests without due cause and due process.

There is a little thing called PACE that we all abide by.

Id like everyone to know the reality of what happened in relation to the example given by the author. Yet what relevance the example given has to a stop and watch campain i really cant see.

I was the officer who detained the person in the article and let me assure you that his detention had nothing to do with the impending May Day protests. He was arrested as a result of a legitimate allegation which i had spent considerable time and effort investigating before even visiting him at his address. He was co-operative and understood fully the reasons for his arrest.

I would very much like to tell everyone the truth behind the events concerning " An Example" but i dont surpose that im permitted to do so. Yet let me tell you this....

After all, I was there throughout his detention and even took him to the Mental Health Unit personally to make sure he got the treatment he apparently needed.

The person who is the subject of this article knows that what he has written is untruthful, he knows why he was arrested, and he alone knows why he chose to destroy a police cell by smearing excrement all over it from top to bottom. I felt sorry for the person, even knowing what he had done to warrant being arrested in the first place. I had no problem with his political beliefs or ideologies, but i do know that he was treated respectfully politely and with dignity. He chose to strip naked in the cell and scream blood curdling obscenities and threats to kill Police Officers at the top of his voice for hours. I was even accused of interfering with his baby child at his flat!

You should have seen the mess he left behind, it was a complete disgrace. Perhaps if he was genuinely mentally unwell then it may have been forgiveable, but it seems that contary to what an Independent Psychiatrist, Police Doctor and a Social Worker thought, he was perfectly mentally balanced. The cleaning team who had to remove the excrement were horrified....

I also know of the time when Hackney cops tried to clear up all their unsolved back in 1982/83 they arrested MAC on some shit and charged MAC with loads of stuff which he couldn't have done due to him formally being in borstal when all these crimes were committed, the cops took no notice they wanted MAC that badly and once it was all at trial and various witnesses were called including prison staff the cops shit themselves, there was mayhem in the court room and MAC got a large pay out in compensation, Hackney cops have always hated MAC for taking the piss out of them and have gone after him every chance they got which is what happened in 2002 so what MAC committed a little fraud £860 quid, he never harmed anyone in the process and only did it when the people he did the work for decided they were not going to pay him for it and the cops went crazy like he'd robbed the crown jewels, some of you know how that bastard cop went on in court some of you were there watching the proceedings. MAC has never harmed anyone who didn't have it coming to them.
