Yesterday evening a crack team of mutant ninja media subversives stormed Sheffield City Centre to highlight next week's United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and, in particular, the counter-summit actions collectively known as 'We Seize!'.

Yesterday evening (041203) Sheffield city centre was treated to a very different light show to the traditional festive lights.

At 1700GMT a unit of highly trained media guerillas, armed with a digital projector, car battery, voltage inverter and laptop projected the Indymedia and 'We Seize!' logos onto the Town Hall and The Gap outlet conveniently situated opposite.

Over 100 leaflets explaining 'We Seize!' ( http://www.geneva03.org/) and the WSIS ( http://www.wsis.org/) were handed out to passers-by and workers returning home after a hard day in the office.

CD's of the live Linux distros Knoppix ( http://www.knoppix.org/) and dyne:bolic ( http://www.dynebolic.org/) were also given away along with copies of TheOpenCD ( http://www.theopencd.org/).

After about 20 minutes of the action two agents of state suppression, posing as 'City Centre Ambassadors', attempted to intimidate the brave protestors but were given short shrift and they backed away - hah!

The digital bandits continued their action until the cold got the better of them when they retired to a media party with free booze and warming bowls of bangers and mash.

Great to hear that you're handing out discs on the street! Way to go!

We are having a bunch of them made up in bulk now. I'd be interested to hear from anyone planning such things in the future. We'd be happy to help out with some discs.

OpenCD

I just got finished listening to Henrik presenting OpenCD, at OSS Watch in Oxford. This is one of the smartest ideas for an Open Source project I've come across in ages: really well implemented too. We're now planning to get OpenCDs distributed free to all students at the local University.

Thanks Henrik.
